Windows 11 and 10: How to Show Drive Letter before Drive Name?

In Windows 11 and 10, drive names or volume labels appear first before drive letters. How to Display Drive Letters Before Drive Names in File Explorer in Windows 11 and 10?

If you want drive letters to appear before drive names or volume labels in File Explorer on Windows 11 or 10, follow these steps:-

Step 1. Start by opening the Registry Editor.

Step 2. Navigate to the following path in the left sidebar of the Registry Editor window:-

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer

Step 3. In the left navigation pane, right-click the Explorer key and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.

Step 4. Set the new REG_DWORD to ShowDriveLettersFirst.

Step 5. Then, double-click on the ShowDriveLettersFirst REG_DWORD value to change it.

Step 6. You can set the following values in the “Value data” field:-

  • 0: Show all drive letters after drive names.
  • 1: Show only network drive letters before drive labels.
  • 2: Hide all drive letters.
  • 4: Show all drive letters before drive labels.

In the “Value data” field, enter 4 to display drive letters before drive labels.

Step 7. Click the OK button.

Step 8. To apply the changes, sign out of your account or reboot your computer.
