How to Turn On or Off the “Low Disk Space” Warning in Windows 11 or 10?

Windows 11 and 10 display a message, “Low Disk Space,” on the bottom right corner of the monitor when a partition on your computer doesn’t have enough free space. This warning message may pop up every few minutes to remind you to free up the space on your system. If this message annoys you and you want to turn it off, you can do it by tweaking the Windows Registry.

You should pay attention whenever you notice the “Low Disk Space” warning message on your computer. If possible, you should immediately fix these issues by moving bigger files to an external hard disk. And if you get this warning message about your operating system drive (typically drive “C”), you should immediately free up the “C” drive space. A lot of software may not function properly, and even your operating system may crash due to insufficient disk space. However, you can ignore the notice if the warning is about a non-system drive.

On Windows 11 or 10 PCs, you may see two types of low disk space warning messages. These are the following:-

  • You are running out of disk space on Local Disk (X:). Click here to see if you can free space on this drive.
  • You’re running out of space on this PC. Manage storage to view usage and free up some space.

The first message indicates that there is not enough space on your disk to save data. While the second message is mainly related to the Temp folder in the “C” drive. When the Temp folder gets full, this error message will appear.

As mentioned above, if your computer has insufficient disk space, it will not download and install the apps and system updates. Moreover, your computer will slow down, get stuck, or even crash. Hence, it is recommended to free up the Windows installation drive as soon as possible when you see the error message “Low Disk Space.”
