How to Turn On or Off Touchscreen on Windows 10?

Touchscreen inputs are helpful when you use Windows 11 on tablets or 2-in-1 devices. But, the touchscreen might not help you much if you are familiar with the keyboard and mouse. You can disable the touchscreen in Windows 10 in the same way on all devices, including laptops, desktops, tablets, and 2-in-1 devices.

If your computer includes a touch screen feature, it will be turned on by default. However, if it irritates you and wants to disable the touch screen feature on your PC, it is possible through the built-in options. There is no need to download and install an application to do the same. Disabling the touch screen will also save battery power and extra memory resources.

You might want to turn off the touchscreen on a Windows 10 device due to several reasons, such as:-

  • LCD is damaged, and the touch screen hampers your work.
  • You want to boost the battery life of your system.
  • The touchscreen is no longer required as you prefer to use the keyboard and mouse.

There are at least two ways using which you can turn off the Touch screen on a Windows 10 machine. These are the following:-

  • Device Manager.
  • Registry Editor.

How to Turn On or Off Touch Screen in Windows 10 using Device Manager?

To enable or disable the Touch Screen on Windows 10 using traditional Device Manager, use these steps:-

Step 1. First, open the Device Manager.

To do that, right-click the Start button and select Device Manager in the pop-up menu.

Step 2. Next, expand the Human Interface Devices entry in the Device Manager.

Step 3. Then, right-click the HID-compliant touch screen.

Step 4. After that, click the Disable device option in the context menu.

Once you complete the above steps, the touchscreen is disabled on your Windows 10 machine.

To turn on the touch screen again on your Windows 10 device, repeat the above steps and in step 4 above, choose the Enable device option.

How to Enable or Disable Touch Screen in Windows 10 using Registry Editor?

To turn on or off Touch Screen in Windows 10 Registry Editor, use these steps:-

Step 1. At first, open the Registry Editor.

Step 2. Next, navigate or browse to the following key in the left sidebar of the Registry Editor window:-

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Wisp\Touch

Step 3. Then, right-click on the free space in the right-hand pane of the Touch folder and choose New > DWORD (32-bit) Value.

Step 4. Rename the newly created REG_DWORD to TouchGate.

Step 5. Now, double-click on the TouchGate REG_DWORD and set its “Value data” to 0.

Step 6. Then, click the OK button.

Step 7. At last, restart your touch-enabled Windows 10 system to apply the changes.

Once you complete the above steps, the touch screen will stop working on your Windows 10 device. If you want to re-enable the touch screen, change the TouchGate REG_DWORD Value data from 0 to 1.
