How to Upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro Edition?

In order to upgrade a Windows 11 Home PC to a Windows 11 Pro version, you will need a valid Pro key. If you purchased a computer with Windows 11 Home preinstalled, then you can do so. You will not lose your stored data or applications when you upgrade Home edition to Pro. You also do not need to create a bootable USB drive and install your Windows from scratch.

In order to upgrade your current PC to Windows 11 Pro, you must have a valid Pro license key that you can obtain from a vendor or purchase from Microsoft Store.

Why do you need to upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro?

Several features of Windows 11 Pro are not included in the Home edition. A lot of users are satisfied with the Home edition, but not all. Pro editions of Windows 11 are more geared toward professionals and enterprise-managed PCs.

If you have planned to get Windows 11 Pro, it is important to know what you will get in that. One of the features of the Pro edition is BitLocker encryption, which protects data from external attackers. Once you encrypt the data of your PC, only you will be able to access it. It is recommended that users who store confidential or personal data on their PC use BitLocker to encrypt it.

The other features include Remote Desktop, which lets you remotely connect to your PC and control it from anywhere around the world. This is useful if you need to access your computer remotely. However, there are so many good alternatives for remote desktop access, such as TeamViewer, UltraViewer, etc.

Last but not least, the Pro edition of Windows 11 also supports Hyper-V virtualization. With Hyper-V, you can create and run virtual machines to test specific environments or risky software without damaging your computer. You can, however, install Windows 11 after bypassing system requirements by using some freeware programs like VirtualBox.

After all, you need to decide if you want to upgrade to the Pro edition or if Windows 11 Home is sufficient for your needs.

How to Upgrade Windows 11 Home to Pro?

It is important to note that your Windows 11 Home copy is activated before proceeding with the steps; otherwise, you can’t proceed. Typically, if you bought a preinstalled computer, Windows 11 should already be activated. If necessary, check your Windows 11 activation.

If your Windows 11 Home edition is activated, proceed as follows to upgrade to the Pro edition:-

Step 1. First, open the Settings app by pressing Windows + I keys.

Step 2. Select the System category in the Settings app in the left sidebar.

Step 3. On the right side pane, click on the Activation  tab.

Step 4. Then, click the Upgrade your edition of Windows header to expand it.

Step 5. After that, click the Change button beside the “Change product key” option.

Quick Note: If you don’t have a valid Windows 11 Pro key, click the button Open Store beside “Upgrade in the Microsoft app” and complete the purchase.

Step 6. Now a pop-up window will resemble. Enter here Windows 11 Pro key that you already purchased.

Step 7. Once you enter a valid 25-digit product key, click the Next button.

If you have an active internet connection, you can validate the Windows 11 Pro product key from the Microsoft activation server. Once you input the correct key, your Windows 11 Pro will be permanently activated.

On successful activation, you’ll see a message that says, “Your copy of Windows is successfully activated.” Now, all the Pro features of Windows 11 will automatically be downloaded and updated.
